Kloof at a glance

Kloof, a suburb known for its relaxed and sophisticated lifestyle, gets its name from the Afrikaans word for "gorge," a nod to the deep ravine formed by the Molweni stream. Renowned for its winding, tree-lined roads and luxurious homes, Kloof is a beloved area in the Upper Highway region. It is conveniently situated near the charming areas of Gillitts and Hillcrest and is within easy reach of Durban and Umhlanga.

History:

The land that Kloof now occupies was originally part of a farm awarded to William Swan Field by the British Government in 1851 for his services. The well-known Field's Hill road, connecting Pinetown to Kloof, is named after him. Subsequent subdivisions of this farm led to Kloof becoming a residential area, with plots sold to wealthy residents from Durban and the surrounding regions. Kloof's popularity surged in the 1960s and 1970s, attracting people with its sizable properties and country ambiance.

Climate:

Kloof, part of the Upper Highway area, is significantly cooler than coastal Durban. The climate is mild, warm, and temperate, with substantial rainfall even in the driest months.
